MEET AMY

Fighting for Your Voices to be Heard

My name is Amy MacNab and I would be honored to represent you as a member of the Duxbury Board of Selectmen.

I have lived in Duxbury for forty years.  My husband, Jamie, and I have raised our three daughters here where they established a strong foundation for success by attending Duxbury Public Schools.  We are among the many hard working families of Duxbury that hope to retire in the community where we have worked, volunteered our time and raised our children.

Over the years, I have been an active citizen, served in elected positions and acquired a clear understanding of the issues facing the town of Duxbury.  I was elected three times to serve on the Duxbury Planning Board from 1998 to 2012; serving as Chairperson for 7 years.  I co-authored Duxbury’s 1999 Comprehensive Plan and went on to serve on the committee charged with implementation and bylaw update recommendations. Through my experiences as an elected official, I have a unique understanding of the general bylaws, zoning bylaws, and the specific responsibilities of each board within this linear form of government.  I am a constant and active participant at Town Meetings, the legislative body of our town government, raising questions with the goal of transparency and obtaining the necessary information for our residents to cast informed decisions.

I do believe it is important to have a woman on the Board.  On September 1, we have an opportunity to elect a more diverse board that more closely reflects the composition of Duxbury residents.

As your selectman, I will be your advocate and your voice as we navigate the important environmental, educational, fiscal and community issues.

                                                                                                            Amy M. MacNab

Amy has spent 40 years as a resident of Duxbury where she has raised three daughters, Jennifer, Bailey and Ainsley. Her husband, Jamie, serves on the Board of Assessors and has been a dedicated member of the Duxbury 4th of July Parade Committee for many years. Amy's in-laws, Roberta and Gil MacNab, are Duxbury natives. Roberta graduated from Duxbury High School (now the building that houses the Duxbury Free Library) in 1948. Her father and grandfather were natives of Duxbury as well.

Her daughter Jennifer Burgess is the acting Director of the Academic Enhancement Center at the University of Rhode Island. Her daughter Bailey works in the Center for Enhanced Performance at the United States Military Academy. Her youngest daughter, Ainsley, studies Interior Design at Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Amy works full time as a paralegal and in her free time she enjoys walks with Renzo the one-eyed labradoodle, rug braiding, and doing pottery.
